Classic Banana Bread

Classic Banana Bread

Welcome to The Millennial Farmhouse! Today, I’m excited to share with you my recipe for Classic Banana Bread. This dish is a flavor-packed take on an easy treat. Whether you’re cooking for your family or treating your coworkers, this Classic Banana Bread recipe is one to remember.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Flavorful: Packed with bananas and gentle spices.
  • Budget-friendly: Made with staple items you’ll most likely already have.

Classic Banana Bread is one of my favorite treats to bake. It is deliciously sweet with a mix of sugars and bananas. It also has two slightly sweet spices to round out all of the flavors. In addition, it is a great way to use ingredients you already have in your home. I especially love to make this Classic Banana Bread recipe when the bananas have ripened too fast. It eliminates waste and satisfies my sweet tooth.

This year has felt like the perfect time to share this recipe. It requires a small selection of ingredients and a little bit of time to put together. The same can be said for my Chocolate Chip Banana Bread recipe. Both treats are worth baking at home. Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • Overripe Bananas, mashed – 4 whole
  • Canola Oil – ½ cup
  • Low Fat Milk – ¼ cup
  • Large Eggs – 2
  • Vanilla Extract – ½ tsp

Dry Ingredients

  • Granulated Sugar – ½ cup
  • Dark Brown Sugar, packed – ½ cup
  • All Purpose Flour – 1 ½ cups
  • Baking Soda – 1 tsp
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Ground Cinnamon – ¼ tsp
  • Ground Nutmeg – ¼ tsp

Overripe Bananas – Overripe bananas provide a very sweet and strong favor. They are also softer and easy to mash.

Brown Sugar – Brown sugar is sweet and often enhances other flavors. It can draw out the different flavors making them stronger in different recipes. It is also a staple for many baked goods.

Nutmeg – Nutmeg can add an intense flavor to baked goods. It also complements brown sugar so it makes sense to add it to this recipe.

Low Fat Milk – Using a low fat milk for this recipe will keep the bread from being dense without detracting from the flavor.

What You’ll Need

The recipe takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to make. This Classic Banana Bread recipe does not require an extensive list of tools. You will need the following:

  • 2 Mixing Bowls: One bowl for wet ingredients and one for dry ingredients.
  • Metal Whisk: To mash the bananas and to mix the wet ingredients.
  • Silicone Mixing Spoon: To lightly mix the wet and dry ingredients together.
  • Measuring cups/spoons: To use exact measurements for this recipe.
  • 2 (9 x 5) Rectangular Baking Dishes: Great size for slicing the bread into individual pieces.

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.
  2. Peel and mash the bananas in one bowl with a whisk until they are smooth.
  3. Add the wet ingredients, including the sugars to the same bowl.
  4. Whisk together the wet ingredients and sugars until the batter reaches a smooth liquid-like consistency. Set the wet mixture aside.
  5. Scoop and Sweep 1 and ½ cups of flour into the second bowl.
  6. Add the remaining dry ingredients to the flour.
  7. Mix the dry ingredients so the spices are evenly incorporated into the flour.
  8. Combine half the flour mixture with the wet ingredients.
  9. Stir the dry ingredients with the wet mixture using a silicone spoon and combine until fully blended.
  10. Add the second half of the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and stir lightly until combined. Do not over-mix.
  11. Grease the baking dishes and pour the batter into each dish.
  12. Bake the banana bread for 60 minutes.
  13. Enjoy!

Tips for Success

  • Do not over-mix the batter.
  • Combine sugars with the wet ingredients to prevent a grainy texture.
  • Sprinkle a mixture of sugar and cinnamon on top of the batter before putting it into the oven to get a thin crust.
