Homemade Halloween Potion: Ghostly Marshmallow Mocha

Homemade Halloween snacks are really special. Halloween is always a fun time of year. There are so many costumes to see, activities to enjoy, and candies to eat. Sweet Halloween treats can make a fun night feel even better. Here is an easy Halloween potion to make during October.

I am sharing an easy iced latte recipe. It requires a small selection of ingredients and a little bit of time to put together. You can also view how I made this homemade Halloween snack on my YouTube channel The Millennial Farmhouse

This homemade Halloween treat is a Ghostly Marshmallow Potion. This latte is an iced toasted marshmallow mocha with spooky vibes. It is rich and full of chocolate! If you like chocolate coffees then this recipe is for you. Below is a recipe for a Ghostly Marshmallow Potion homemade Halloween snack.

Ingredients

Iced Latte

  • Espresso – 4 oz
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – 1/2 to 1 tsp
  • 1 % Milk – 1 cup
  • Chocolate Sauce – as much as desired
  • Toasted Marshmallow Coffee Syrup – 6 tbsp, divided
  • Ice – as much as needed
  • Marshmallows – as much as desired
  • Whipped Cream, optional
  • Eyeball Candy, optional
  • Green Writing Gel, optional

Toasted Marshmallow Coffee Syrup – This coffee syrup tastes like a very sweet marshmallow. It is strong and perfect for mochas or smore’s flavored drinks. Adding toasted marshmallow will create a powerful drink.

Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – Cocoa powder is a staple for mochas. It is a mix between sweet and bitter. It also provides a rich flavor for baked goods without having to use too much processed chocolate.

Marshmallows – Marshmallows are a great treat. They are soft, even textured, and perfect for adding to coffees. They are even better when lightly toasted.

Chocolate Sauce – Chocolate sauce is extremely rich and delicious. It is a great ingredient that pairs well with marshmallows and it’s perfect for mochas. You can use chocolate sauce in your coffee at any time.

What You’ll Need

The recipe should take no longer than 10 minutes to make. This recipe does not require an extensive list of tools. You will need an espresso machine and all that comes with it to brew espresso, as well as measuring spoons and a straw, if you prefer to drink through one. In addition, the following will be needed:

Glass Cup/Tumbler (12oz – 16oz) – Iced coffee drinks are great in glass cups. Glass does not retain a lot of heat so using a glass cup will help keep the temperature of iced coffee fairly chill.

Milk Pitcher – Metal milk pitchers make it easy to combine ingredients, whether you are frothing the ingredients or steaming them. They are also best for pouring liquid contents into other containers without spilling, as the curved lip keeps the contents  and the direction of the pour concentrated.

Milk Frother – A milk frother is a great tool for adding air to milk or heavy cream to obtain a foam-like texture. It is also useful for stirring ingredients. You can use a handheld frother or an electric tabletop appliance.

Torch/Lighter – A handheld torch or lighter is great for toasting or browning sweets.

Preparation

Iced Latte

  1. Brew 4 ounces of espresso. You can use 1  cup of iced coffee if you don’t drink espresso and a little less milk than this recipe calls for. Let the espresso cool down for a few minutes.
  2. Add unsweetened cocoa powder and 3 tablespoons of toasted marshmallow coffee syrup to the espresso, and mix it all together using the frother. Set it aside.
  3. Line the drinking cup with chocolate sauce by pouring a generous amount into the cup and using the frother to spray it on the inside of the tumbler.
  4. Add in ice, followed by milk and the remaining 3 tablespoons of toasted marshmallow.
  5. Pour in the espresso mixture.
  6. Top the latte with whipped cream and chocolate sauce if you so choose.
  7. Place a handful of marshmallows onto the top of the drink.
  8. Toast the marshmallows using the lighter until you get a nice brown coating. Wave the lighter back and forth instead of holding it in one spot to avoid burning the marshmallows.
  9. Decorate this mocha with candy eyeballs and green writing gel to give it a spooky Halloween look.
  10. Enjoy!

Tips

You can use the eyeball candy and green writing gel to give it a creepy look, or leave it out for a more traditional vibe.

Thoughts

I was brainstorming video ideas for my Youtube channel, and I wanted to make a spooky Halloween drink. It felt right to make “potions” or regular coffee drinks with Halloween twists. I like this Ghostly Marshmallow Mocha because it is strong and dark just like Halloween. When I made this drink, I thought it would be too sweet because I used a lot of chocolate sauce. However, with strong espresso and the right amount of milk it isn’t too sweet. You can also adjust the flavors to your liking.

I really like this Ghostly Marshmallow Mocha. Any coffee drink combined with chocolate is pretty good in my opinion. I did share this drink with someone, and they liked it better than other drinks because it wasn’t too sweet. Overall, I really liked this drink, and it is perfect for a spooky Halloween snack.

I usually play around with different drinks I like, and I am always trying to switch up my coffee routine. You can find more coffee recipes, such as my Iced Peppermint Mocha Latte on the blog. In addition, I shared how to spice up your at-home coffee in the Fall with a pumpkin spice syrup. You can read about that here. I also shared the recipe for an Apple Pie Potion to go with my homemade Halloween Snacks video. Whether you follow my recipes or create your own, I encourage you to try something different every time.

I hope you like this recipe and don’t forget to watch the full video on YouTube.
