Cinnamon Bun Iced Latte with Homemade Sweet Cream

Ingredients

Iced Latte

  • Espresso – 2 shots  (sub: Iced Coffee – 1 cup)
  • 1 % Milk – 3/4   cup
  • Honey – as much as desired
  • Cinnamon Bun Coffee Syrup – 1 tbsp
  • Ice – as much as needed

Homemade Sweet Cream

  • Clover Honey – 1/2  tbsp
  • Brown Sugar – 1 and 1/2 tbsp
  • Cinnamon Powder – 1 tsp
  • Heavy Cream – ¼ cup

Honey – Honey is a natural sweetener. It is also fairly subtle and not at all overpowering. Adding honey to your coffee drinks will provide a nice change of pace from the usual sweeteners.

Brown Sugar – Brown sugar is sweet and often enhances other flavors. It can draw out the different flavors making them stronger in different recipes. It is also a staple for cinnamon bun fillings.

Cinnamon Powder – Cinnamon powder can add a sweet spice to coffee drinks. It also complements brown sugar in cinnamon bun fillings so it makes sense to add it to this recipe.

Heavy Cream – Heavy Cream or Heavy Whipping Cream is very rich. It is a great ingredient for making whipped cream toppings. You can use heavy cream in your coffee or to top off your coffee.

What You’ll Need

The recipe should take no longer than 10 minutes to make. This recipe does not require an extensive list of tools. You will need an espresso machine and all that comes with it to brew espresso, as well as measuring spoons and a straw, if you prefer to drink through one. In addition, the following will be needed:

Glass Cup (18 oz – 24 oz) – Iced coffee drinks are great in glass cups. Glass does not retain a lot of heat so using a glass cup will help keep the temperature of iced coffee fairly chill.

Milk Pitcher – Metal milk pitchers make it easy to combine ingredients, whether you are frothing the ingredients or steaming them. They are also best for pouring liquid contents into other containers without spilling, as the curved lip keeps the contents  and the direction of the pour concentrated.

Milk Frother – A milk frother is a great tool for adding air to milk or heavy cream to obtain a foam-like texture. They also help to add volume to the milk. You can use a handheld frother or an electric tabletop appliance.

Preparation

Homemade Sweet Cream

  1. Pour heavy cream into a small pitcher.
  2. Add in brown sugar, cinnamon powder and honey.
  3. Froth the contents of the pitcher to combine but pay attention to consistency. You want the sweet cream to thicken slightly. If you do not have a milk frother, follow the next step. Skip step 4 if you have a frother.
  4. Substitute (no frother),  put contents into a sealed mason jar and shake vigorously, or whisk contents in a cold metal bowl to form whipped cream.
  5. Refrigerate the homemade sweet cream to keep it cold.

Iced Latte

  1. Brew 2 shots of espresso. You can use 1  cup of iced coffee if you don’t drink espresso and a little less milk than this recipe calls for.
  2. Line the drinking cup with honey by rotating the glass  as the honey drips down the inside.
  3. Pour in the cinnamon bun coffee syrup.
  4. Add in ice, followed by espresso and then milk.
  5. Stir the iced latte together.
  6. Top the latte with the homemade sweet cream.

Tips

To use as a full coffee creamer instead of a topping, lightly froth or blend the homemade sweet cream contents along with the milk in a pitcher until just combined.  Then add it to an iced coffee or iced latte.

Thoughts

The first time I tried cinnamon bun coffee syrup was this year (2024). It was given to me as a gift, along with some other coffee and hot cocoa related items. The brand that my cinnamon bun syrup is from is Le Sirop de Monin. You can find this particular syrup on their website. It is sweet and rich, which is exactly what I like. I just knew this syrup would inspire a great Cinnamon Bun Iced Latte with a Homemade Sweet Cream  recipe.

The flavors in the Cinnamon Bun syrup really do taste like a cinnamon bun, and they bring a cozy feel to iced coffee. I was inspired by the syrup to whip up a homemade sweet cream. Cinnamon buns are buttery and flavorful and they  are topped with a frosting to add sweetness. It made sense to make a sweet cream, which uses heavy cream and vanilla flavoring. However, I decided to add honey instead of vanilla, and to include the brown sugar and cinnamon in keeping with the traditional cinnamon bun filling.

Overall, I thought this drink was delicious and super sweet. I usually brew my coffee strong, and I prefer to add milk and a creamy topping to my coffee. With such strong coffee, I like sweet flavors especially in iced coffee drinks. I do encourage you to play around with the ingredients if you are looking for a more subtle flavor. This Cinnamon Bun Iced Latte with Homemade Sweet Cream can fit most tastes with just a tweak of the ingredients. You can go for a more subtle flavor or you can sweeten it even more. You can leave out things you don’t like, add in vanilla flavoring, or you can alter the measurements in a way that fits your desired tastes.

I usually play around with different drinks I like, and I am always trying to switch up my coffee routine. You can find more coffee recipes, such as my Iced Peppermint Mocha Latte on the blog. I have worked on applying this recipe to both hot and cold coffee drinks. In addition, I shared how to spice up your at-home coffee in the Fall with a pumpkin spice syrup. You can read about that here. Whether you follow my recipes or create your own, I encourage you to take a risk and try something different. That’s exactly what I did with this Cinnamon Bun Iced Latte with Homemade Sweet Cream.

I hope you like this recipe!
